I’m Ben Carr and I’m a self-taught web developer and designer. For now I call Harrisonburg, VA home, where I’m a junior at James Madison University majoring in Media Arts and Design with an Interactive Media concentration. I dabble in photography, and enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and beautiful girlfriend, Sarah.
In a nutshell, I design and build websites. My focus and passion is in client side development which includes (X)HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and I develop to Web Standards at all times.
I have a strong familiarity with PHP, but my knowledge is not extensive enough to develop rich PHP applications. I am familiar with MySQL databases, and I have a strong interest and passion for Wordpress as a content management system, and have used it on every site in my portfolio.
Often what you don’t know is just as important as what you do, and acknowledging what I am incapable of helps to define the boundaries of my knowledge, and establish what I can accomplish. Web design to me does not include the use of Adobe Flash as a structural component, thus I have a limited knowledge of developing in Adobe Flash. Like many developers, I prefer to focus on browser-native technologies to develop my sites. I have a limited knowledge of video production, and zero knowledge of motion graphics, 3D design, or illustration.
